Dear mom and dad,
Today I was sent to the front. The Russians just dropped out of the fight and now more Germans are headed to our front. The trench between countries was huge and the Generals kept yelling, "keep your heads down or you wont have 'em any more!" Frans got caught in no mans land today, he will never see another sun rise from the horizon. We move a couple hundred yards forward each day and acouple hundred fall never to rise again. We just got news that the Americans were comming and the men's hopes have risen. They intercepted a telegraph from the Germans and thank the Lord in Heaven they did. Our men were loosing faith in this war, but we are now a shoe in to defet thoes germans. That one slip up Sure did save our sorry behinds. Us doughboys are really amazed that the americans didnt join up earlier even after that ship, the Lusitania sunk with 128 Americans on board from thoes axis u-boats. I cannot belive that Woodrow Wilson wanted to stay isolated from the war... and that it took his presidentcy being threatend to join in... I miss you guys with all my heart and I am just awaiting the day when i get to see your faces again. I see men everyday fall and I think about how many families will never know. So many of my friends have been killed. I am not afriad to join them, its just a matter of how and when that scares me. I pray every day that my tank holds up and that the gas misses our camp... the thought of comming home to you all is what keeps me going everyday...
Your son,
Pierr
